This is could get interesting, especially if it allows the power companies the ability to monitor and even turn off power sources from within one's home or business. Could it be another rendition of George Orwell's "1984"?{mos_sb_discuss:3}

and rampant optimism from outgoing FCC chief Powell, the actual people
deploying broadband over power-line (BPL) technology still aren't sold.
The Newark Star Ledger
notes how many believe it's a no-go for rural areas, and discusses how
many trials are being run simply so Utilities can have a better
understanding of utility control. "We could, for example, reach into a number of homes on a hot day and flip off air conditioners for 15 or 20 minutes," a Con-Ed exec suggests."
