From Broadband Wireless Online:
The need for wireless backhaul links in the United States will grow
more than three-fold over the next five years, according to a new study
from Visant Strategies.
Wireless backhaul will be spurred by increased demands on mobile
carrier networks. Mobile carriers will need support due to an increased
number of subscribers, an increase in minutes-per-subscriber usage and
mobile gamer use.
Mobile operators will also face a need for backhaul support as they build out next-generation voice and data networks.
"As you see more and more operators building out 3G and 4G in the US,
you are also seeing them build a greater need for backhaul services,
and this will just continue as subscribers use more mobile minutes and
data applications," stated Dan Sweeney, the study's author.
Currently, wireless backhaul accounts for almost one fifth of backhaul
capacity in the United States, according to the study, "US Mobile
Backhaul: Growth Trends and Analysis 2005."
The study provides forecasts of annul radio shipments for backhaul
applications. In addition to microwave links, the study looks at the
need for T-1s and fiber optics for backhaul. |
