Verizon has arranged to retail its DSL service through Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart will set up Connection Centers in the 549 stores it owns in 24 states in Verizon's service territory.
Verizon called Wal-Mart the perfect place to both educate consumers about the benefits of DSL and to sign up customers who are ready to buy, and said DSL's affordable pricing (the lowest tier is $17.99 a month) is "an ideal fit" with Wal-Mart's focus on value-conscious shoppers.
Wal-Mart Connection Centers will be built around an automated ordering system that checks eligibility for Verizon DSL service and then lets customers place their order. A three-step, do-it-yourself installation kit will be shipped directly to the customer once the order is completed.
Verizon said nearly 50 of the Wal-Mart stores will have Spanish-language sales materials to assist Spanish-speaking customers with their purchasing decisions.
Verizon Online DSL is already offered in 10 Wal-Mart stores and will be in all of the 549 stores by the end of June.
