Howdy all. I was out in Nebraska earlier this week and came back to a few stories posted on by our friend, Mike Masnick on TechDirt Wireless I thought you might enjoy. Gives me a new perspective on preferring to spend time with family instead of making use of a wifi connection...seriously. Hope you enjoy these snippets!
Earthlink Trying to Power WiFi
Earthlink's strategy these days seems to be that they want to offer everything
in terms of connectivity. They have dialup. They have DSL in some
areas. The want to offer cable. They do WiFi via Boingo. They do VoIP.
They do some wireless, and are going to expand that widely with
SK-Earthlink. And, now, rather than fighting muni-WiFi, they're trying to convince cities to let them manage muni-WiFi implementations.
Will Wireless Kill Weekends?
The issue of how technology is impacting our work-life balance
comes up every few months, and this latest study should only pour more
fuel on the fire. It actually turns out that over the past four years
or so, people have been doing less work and more "life." However, with
new (mostly mobile) technologies, people are expecting the balance to shift further towards work, including getting people to work when they're normally disconnected, such as on vacation
and during weekends. Of course, this might not be so bad if people can
learn to do a better job spreading out their work and life activities.
