A U.S. appeals court on Friday upheld the government's authority to force high-speed Internet service providers to give law enforcement authorities access for surveillance purposes, reports Reuters. A Judge had previously called the FCC position on the case "gobbledygook". The FCC has given ISPs and Universities until May 14 2007 to make their networks wiretap friendly. Universities have claimed this is unfair, since telcos were originally subsidized to make these changes; they claim the changes will cost them in excess of $7 billion, or $450 in tuition increase per student.
