Ball State University in Indiana which ranked as the top wireless campus in the country in 2005, has been granted an experimental, six-month license from the Federal Communications Commission to test WiMAX for future use on the campus. Because of the reach of WiMax signals, it should take only one WiMax access point to provide service to the entire campus. College campuses are often a place where new technology gets its jumpstart, and Ball State is at the forefront as the first U.S. university to test WiMax against the existing wireless internet systems.
