Amended from DailyWireless:
A new report from Pyramid Research
called "Positioning WiMAX: How WiMAX Stands Up to DSL, Cable, Wi-Fi and
3G" predicts that WiMAX pricing will not be as competitive as
suggested.
The report suggests adoption will be slowed by small-scale deployments, multiple spectrum bands and chipsets with varying features. The effect will be that WiMAX equipment prices will stay high.
WiMAX equipment providers will need to prove the
performance of their products to stay competitive, but they don't have
much time. They will face stiff competition from wireless alternatives
like HSDPA and 1xEV-DO, as well as wireline technologies, in the near
future.
